When you commit to lease a domain, the domain owner (lessor) also makes an equal committment. They guarantee to support your domain and other name server settings, such as mail server, during the active lease period. The domain owner is also unable to lease, or sell, the domain to any other interested third-party during this timeframe.
If, however, your lease has expired, the domain owner is no longer obligated to provide service to you. What this means, is the domain owner can, for example, reset the domain settings so your web page etc. will no longer be displayed to users typing the address. In addition, the domain owner is free to remove the domain from our listings and revise their appraisal and price strategy before republishing. Alternatively, the domain owner might choose to lease the domain to another third-party, decide to sell the domain, or even delete the domain and begin using the domain themself. In other words, they are free to do as they choose. For these reasons, we always remind lessee's in doubt, and those wondering whether to extend their lease or not, to do so, at least for the minimum lease period, before their current lease expires.
